so that creativity flourishes, nurtured by a community of passionate individuals dedicated to their mission. we offer a sanctuary for personal and artistic exchange and expression first & foremost. it is about being with each other and allowing free flow of conversation, thought and inspiration. All artists can be odd, eccentric, bizarre, peculiar and unique. So that’s why our name is “the odd ones”.
a community of people where ideas spark and growth becomes inevitable. Art nourishes people and our club is meant to amplify that. surrounded by like-minded individuals, you’ll find shared inspiration and diverse perspectives, vital support, and constructive feedback. the words art and commerce do not go together and never will. the fact art can be sold has nothing to do with the intention behind creating it. Art is invaluable and its purpose eternal. the fact people put a price on it is mere convenience.
At the heart of the club lies our folio (a.k.a. the manifesto), a guiding approach that speaks to the dedication, vulnerability, and unwavering pursuit of artistic expression . Membership hinges on understanding, embracing, and truly believing in this shared vision . It’s not about fame or fortune . the doors to our clique aren’t guarded by metrics of success, bank balances, or social standing . Whether you’re an emerging talent pouring your soul into your first project or a seasoned master constantly pushing boundaries, your status is secondary to your commitment to elevating human consciousness.
Most people in creative professions are just fishermen. Why?
a person who draws is not an artist.
A painter is not an artist.
An actor is not an artist.
A musician is not an artist.
A singer is not an artist.
A sculptor is not an artist.
A writer of poetry or novels or screenplays is not an artist.
A filmmaker is not an artist.
A photographer is not an artist.
A dancer is not an artist
.
A graphic designer is not an artist.
A designer is not an artist.
An architect is not an artist.
A fashion designer is not an artist.
A copywriter is not an artist.
An art director is not an artist.
while individuals may work within these creative domains, it does not inherently elevate them to the status of artist, automatically or at all.
Choosing a career in the creative realm does not guarantee that one is an artist, regardless of how much they earn or achieve within it.
An artist makes a lifelong commitment to explore deeply and at times as a result they disturb, provoke, challenge and always elevate consciousness. They delve into the depths of self, travel great distances into the unconscious, suffering, and the complexities/ugliness of the human condition.
Through their unique sensibilities and life experiences, they filter the nastiness/intricacies/trauma/pain of existence and present some form of truth. They communicate and make visible what often remains hidden, taking people/audiences on a profound journey of elation, pain, discovery, and the inherent flaws of humanity and personal limitations. They elevate people into a higher and deeper understanding of life.
A fisherman is generally not an explorer of the seas. While we hold great respect for the fisherman’s craft, understanding the difference is key.
Our club does not have a fixed address, intentionally. This nomadic approach allows us to weave the very fabric of Singapore’s diverse landscape into our club’s identity. By choosing interesting venues and places to meet, we aim to stimulate creativity through novelty and shared experiences in compelling settings. While the future may hold the possibility of a permanent location as our community evolves, our current fluidity is a deliberate choice . a commitment to exploration and the unexpected. It’s about the journey and the inspiring places we discover together, fostering connection in the most imaginative ways possible.
